چکیده

A relevant and current aspect of wastewater treatment systems is related to the processes nitrogen cycle that results in its elimination gaseous forms. In present study, we report first measurements nitrate-reducing rate (NRR) at lab-scale, using flow-through reactor technique with sludge a sewage stabilization pond system located Patagonia (Argentina). Sludge was collected from Inlet Outlet areas, winter summer. The characterized by having high moisture content (>94%) organic matter concentration greater than 37%. nitrate reduction experimental dates fitted significantly Michaelis-Menten model, allowing estimation parameters regulate NR kinetics. maximum potential (Rmax) showed great variability, registering 131.6 μmol-N·gdw−1·h−1 (Outlet-Summer) minimum 4.1 (Inlet-Winter). lowest half saturation constant (Km) recorded during (6.1 mg N-NO3−·L−1), which indicates affinity for this bacterial consortium. An unusually activity registered, being higher zone summer temperature. full-scale ponds, could explain part removal involves escape

Renewable Energy from Sewage Sludge

At present, the main contributors to waste to energy are municipal solid waste, manufacturing waste and landfill gas. Probably we are all most familiar with the first (MSW), which involves the garbage that the garbage men pick up regularly at our homes and which goes to a landfill, a transfer station, or incinerator. Today we are going to introduce you to something relatively new on the alterna...

Cold-Adapted Yeasts from Patagonia Argentina

The Patagonian Andes possess a great variety of glaciers, large temperate ice masses, and glacially formed water bodies. Most of these environments are included in protected areas characterized by low anthropogenic impact and minimal atmospheric pollution. Studies on occurrence of psychrotolerant (cold-adapted) and psychrophilic yeasts in these natural environments have allowed the characteriza...

Biofuels from sewage sludge- A review

Municipal sewage sludge is a solid, semisolid, or liquid muddy looking residue that results after plain old sewage (human and other waste from households and industries) is treated at a waste water treatment plant. Recent restrictions on the use of sewage sludge, however, have resulted in increased disposal problems. Sludge contains a variety of organic and inorganic compounds in the waste wate...

Removal of Heavy Metals from Urban Sewage Sludge Using Acidophilic Thiobacillus ferrooxidans

Background & objectives: The presence of heavy metals in urban sewage sludge limits its use as a soil modifier. The purpose of this study was to remove heavy metals (Cu, Zn, Cd and Pb) from urban sewage sludge using Acidophilic Thiobacillus ferrooxidans bacteria. Methods: In this experimental study, the sludge samples were collected from Shiraz wastewater treatment plant. Bioleaching tests were...
